Otto is a 4 year old longhaired Dachshund, he weighs 16.3 pounds. This little boy has been through a lot and he needs a very special home.
Otto was found as a stray in horrible shape, the person who found him took him in their home and was trying to win him over. Otto was terrified and hid under a table. The kind man reached under to pull him out and Otto bit him. Since nobody knew if Otto had his Rabies vaccine he had to be quarantined at the shelter.
We were called to see if we could take Otto in because everyone felt that he wasn't mean, he was just scared. After the quarantine was over we brought Otto into our rescue. He is boarding at our vet's office and the employees there are so kind and gentle with him. He has been vaccinated, neutered and is being treated for a skin infection.
Otto is ready for a new home but he needs someone with Dachshund experience and the potential to be super patient with him. He is not a mean dog, but he has been treated poorly by humans and he needs time to learn to trust again. We will test him with other dogs this week, but wanted to take everything slow with him.
Otto will need a secure fenced yard for potty and playtime. He will also need an adult only home to keep his nerves calm.
